How Does Nitrogen Injection from a Nitrogen Generator Enhance Oilfield Recovery?

　　As oilfield development continues to advance, nitrogen has been widely employed in the production, completion, and workover of oil and gas wells. Moreover, the inert properties of high-pressure nitrogen are leveraged for gas gathering and pipeline purging, thereby preventing the ignition of flammable gases and mitigating corrosion of subsurface pipelines in oilfields. So, how does a nitrogen generator enhance oil recovery in oilfields?

　　Under certain conditions, gravity-driven capillary migration within the reservoir facilitates the entry of nitrogen into oil-wet fractures that injection water cannot penetrate, thereby displacing residual oil trapped in these fractures. Additionally, the injected nitrogen dissolves in the crude oil, causing it to expand in volume and reducing the formation’s residual oil saturation under surface separation conditions through its swelling-induced displacement effect.

　　Change the flow direction of the fluid to displace residual oil in the fracture channels. Exploit the gravitational segregation of oil and gas to recover the remaining oil in the upper part of the reservoir that was not reached by the injected water.
